Carolyn (Hobbs) Haney ’64 – Cedar Falls, IA

I met Carolyn at Panera for lunch in what I would call, very much, a college town.  Carolyn retired from teaching after 39 years.  She went back to school to become a veterinary assistant.  She has been married to her husband, Jack, for 20 years.  They have two sons, Kevin and Craig.  In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, reading and riding her horses.  If you'd like to get in touch with Carolyn, her email address: bookworm@cfu.net .

Dave ’00 & Cheryl (Roberts) ’00 Ellis – Cherokee, IA

David and Cheryl had to make a tough decision earlier in 2007.  That decision was to move from David’s hometown (where his family still lives) of Grand Island, NE and take a Director of Christian Education (youth pastor) at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, IA.  However, the way they would describe the decision to move, it was the hand of the Lord that opened the right doors to Iowa.  The pastor and his wife, also new to the Memorial congregation, are also Sterling College graduates (they’re next, keep scrolling down).

Cheryl and David sort of have four daughters: (L to R in picture) their foster daughter Heather (19), Leah (born 9/19/06), Cheryl, Elizabeth (4), David and Heidi (2)  To get in touch with David & Cheryl: sirdave99@msn.com

Carl Blice ’66 – (from Council Grove, KS)

This was pretty crazy!  I was in some town in Illinois on my way to Decatur getting gas.  This gentleman approached my car and I cautiously opened my door to speak with him.  Turns out that he was an alum!  He recognized the school’s logo on the side of the car and came over.  I couldn’t let him just say hi without getting a picture!  It was cold out there so our visit was brief!  Brrrrr!  Great to see you, Carl!  Now that I know who you are feel free to approach the SC car anytime!

Dave Rowan ’94 – Decatur, IL (pronounced like Dee-kay-ter)

Praise the Lord for Starbucks!  Dave is working on his Master degree in Springfield in counseling.  Living with his wife in Decatur, they are both involved in youth ministry and, on occasion, have foster kids in their home.

Greg Yurevich ’94 – Springfield, IL

Greg talked most of his baseball experiences and good memories of Coach Hadley Hicks while at SC.  Greg has been married to his wife Gina for ten years and has three children: Gabriella (8), Giovannia (3) and Grainger (2).  Currently he is managing a bioterrorism grant for the state of Illinois.  To get in touch with Greg, you can email him at greg_yurevich@yahoo.com

David ’97 & Sarah (Mark) ’97 Parker – Galesburg, IL

& Emily (Robbins) ’65 Mark – visiting her grandkids from Manhattan, KS.

The Parkers are busy these days serving at First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg.  David is the Senior Pastor and Sarah is the Associate Pastor.  The cute ones below are their children Anna (born 12/11/06) and Will (who turned 5 while I was there).  Grandma, Emily Mark, also happened to be there visiting.  You can reach David at sheepdogparker@insightbb.com and Sarah at separker27@insightbb.com .  I actually ended up visiting the Parkers twice in 2007 because of chapter meetings and their generous hospitality.  My, how quickly, and cutely, little kids grow!

The Sterling College Mississippi Valley Alumni Chapter has been around for a long time.  Try, like, over 50 years long!  This group meets in the quad city area twice a year. At the meeting in Aledo, IL on Friday, April 13, the following were present: Keith ’71 & Carol Asmus
