Cheryl ‘74 & Rich ‘73 Meester—

Des Moines, IA

Dee Jay Reiff ‘60—Omaha, NE

Stacy (Zerr) ’04 & Neal Minter—Denver, CO

To try out a new and different church ministry in the central downtown Denver area, we attended Scum of the Earth Church (that’s really the name).  While we were there, we bumped into SC alumna Stacy!  She helps out with this ministry.  She was there with her new husband, Neal.  It was great to see you, Stacy!

Ben Dicke ‘01—Chicago, IL

I just saw Ben yesterday (minus the beard) here at SC!  He came home (Wichita) for his sister’s wedding last week.  Ben, like many actors, works at Starbucks located in the Sears Tower.  Fortunately, he loves his coffee!  He is currently in a production of Carousel and will be touring to different areas of the country shortly.

Peggy & Charles Schoenherr with Judy (Ford) Marshall F69—Wheaton, IL

The Schoenherr’s were a delight to visit with!  Chuck was at Sterling College from 1973 to 1983.  He went from Academic Dean to President of the college!  He said he was very happy with Sterling and loved the culture.  A Wheaton graduate, he takes one class every semester.  Peggy and Charles have 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

While I was there, Judy stopped in and it was a joy to get to know her better as well.  I often see Judy when she visits her sister Carol Bingle in Sterling but I had never gotten to really visit and get to know her.  What a neat lady, indeed!  Judy and her husband Tom ‘68 live in Wheaton and have two daughters and two sons.

Larry F72 & Linda (Ritter) ‘72—Malawi, Africa

Claudia (Romero) ‘79 & Wes ‘79 Jones

This picture requires some explanation.  I am the sponsor of an SC mission club called Raya 3.27 (thus the students).  They went on a short term service trip in October and I drove them to Denver.

The Jones’ were incredibly kind to us and agreed to feed our crew!  The food was delicious and our students really enjoyed getting to know Claudia and Wes.

Still August/September 2007...

Judge Paul ‘53 & Phyllis (Bretches) ‘48 Buchanan—Wichita, KS

These two met each other at church in Wichita and it just so happened that they were SC alumni!  Paul and Phyllis have been married for 40 years.  Paul is a retired judge for the state of Kansas.  Members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, they are enjoying their retirement.

Pam (Irwin) Head ‘69—Wichita, KS

Pam is the Chief Executive Office of the American Red Cross of Kansas and Northern Oklahoma.

Originally from Topeka, Pam said that she came to SC because of her friend Kay (Hogue) Baker ‘69.   Pam told me that her three sisters followed her there. She recalled good times in Evans Hall when she would sneak out the study room window and sleep on the roof.   Also about a prank that consisted of placing concrete blocks in front of someone’s door.  (I guess you could say they were blocked in)

Andrew Lagerborg ‘04—Littleton, CO

The guy in the back row on the left is Andrew.  Andrew was kind enough to welcome us to his church in Littleton.  As a younger graduate of the college, he was able to share with my young ones what he had learned since he left SC.

A theatre major, Andrew is heavily involved with community theatre.  He also helps out with the church’s children’s ministry.

Jerry ’52 & Bev (Brothers) ‘55 Hallberg—

Wichita, KS

Bev was a freshman during Jerry’s senior year at SC.  They were both asked to be on a gospel team together and that’s how they got to know each other; on the road that summer!  Some of their gospel teammates included Bob Meanor ‘54, Les Haspels ’52 and Mrs. Ball.

Jerry is now a retired Presbyterian pastor but is still occasionally asked to preach.  Bev is a retired elementary school teacher (mostly taught 2nd grade).  They have three children and twelve grandchildren all close by in the Wichita area.

Jerry recalled a preacher named Cannon Warner who spoke during a Spiritual Life Week on campus.  He spoke on Psalm 103 and really impacted a great need for spiritual renewal at SC.
