The SC campus and Sterling community turned out Tuesday, Mar. 25th to see the lighting of Cooper Hall followed by a fireworks presentation. The evening kicked off the week's activities celebrating the opening of Cooper Hall.

Cake was served following the fireworks. One cake featured a picture of Cooper Hall and was displayed at various events during the week's festivities.

A prayer service was held on the east steps of Cooper Hall on Wednesday morning, prior to the all-campus photo and ribbon cutting ceremonies.

Following the all-campus photo, the Sterling Lasses began the ribbon cutting ceremonies program in song.

A statue of Jesus washing the disciple Peter's feet was unveiled during the program. The statue symbolizes the development of servant leaders that will occur in Cooper Hall.

From one president to another, President Johnson demonstrated the act of service depicted in the statue by washing Sara Hunt's feet. Sara was the 2002-03 Student Government Association President.

The choir led the audience in the SC alma mater to close the ceremonies.

Five 4th generation alumni students were called upon to assist with the ribbon cutting by either holding the ribbon at its origin or leading the students around the building. The students are from left to right: Andrew Schechter, Jennifer Schechter, Mike Chadwell, Jennifer Turner and Kim Reed.

Adam Wicklund, SC freshmen and bagpiper, walked ahead of one line of students while piping.

Andrew Schechter brings his line of ribbon around the north side of Cooper Hall.

Kim Reed makes slow progress with all the students who joined her line.

The ribbon came together on the east side of Cooper Hall. Sterling College employees stood ready with scissors to cut each student a piece of the ribbon.

Dr. Johnson cuts a piece of the ribbon for juniors Justin Mallett and Tom Gillespie.

Everyone then returned to the west side of Cooper Hall where Dr. Richard Robl and Dr. Johnson unlocked the doors for the students to enter. The students were the first to gain public access the the renovated Cooper Hall.

Sophomore Joel Reiss, freshmen Eli Svaty and junior Paula Svaty enter the building.
